Hello everyone,
We have been discussing with our attorney creating a policy on how we address detainees that damage property in our facility and how we seek restitution from them. We currently just give them notice of the charge and deduct from their detainee account.
We have discussed adding language like if below $200 we handle it internally like we have been and anything over $200 or the detainee has a history of damaging property and it exceeds $200 we would charge them criminally. Anything in NC above 200 is a class one misdemeanor and anything over 1K is a felony.
Any info or policy on this would be appreciated.
