Our agency is looking for anything y'all may have in reference to forced strip searches. We had a sovereign citizen with a history of weapons and drug charges which made a strip search mandatory. The suspect would not comply with having the strip search conducted resulting in him being placed into the Emergency Response Chair (ERC) by our Emergency Response Team (ERT). ERT followed the policy regarding stretch breaks and tried to convince him to comply with the search during each break, which yielded negative results. The suspect was in the ERC for an extended period of time when he claimed to have soiled himself. Based on policy stating a person could not remain in soiled clothing in the ERC and staff realizing the suspect would most likely never comply, the decision was made to remove the suspect from the ERC. The suspect was placed into a cell where staff conducted a forced strip search to ensure he was not in possession of any contraband and given a uniform. There was no cavity search conducted. We currently do not have any policy covering a "forced strip search" so I am looking for guidance with creating one or adding it to our current ERT or ERC policy.
