Good morning,
My facility is currently reviewing our process for vetting books for our inmate population, and I am hoping to gather some information on how other jails handle this. I would be grateful for any insight you can provide on your procedures.
Specifically, I'm interested in the following:
· Does your facility have an established process for reviewing books before they are allowed into circulation?
· Do you maintain a list of publications deemed inappropriate or otherwise prohibited?
· What criteria do you use to approve or deny a book?
· Who makes the final determination, an individual or a committee?
· If you use a committee, what is its composition (e.g., security staff, education department, library staff)?
If you are able to share a copy of your policy or SOPs on this topic, it would be greatly appreciated. Thank you in advance for your assistance.
