We are currently in the process of building a new correctional facility and are evaluating options for inmate television services in day rooms.
In our existing facility, televisions are located within indirect housing ranges and can be controlled by inmates to change channels. The system is currently supported through a local cable provider. As we look toward the new build, we're interested in understanding what other agencies, particularly those with newer construction are using.
Specifically, we're looking for input on the following:
- What type of television programming service does your facility use (cable, satellite, IPTV, etc.)?
- Do you have the ability to inject or broadcast your own internal programming (announcements, informational channels, etc.)?
- Are inmates able to control the televisions (e.g., change channels), or is access restricted/controlled by staff?
- What type of infrastructure supports your system (coaxial, Ethernet/IP-based, or other)?
Any insight, especially from facilities built or renovated recently, would be greatly appreciated as we evaluate options for our new facility.
