Our agency has recently assigned a K‑9 to jail operations, and we are seeking guidance from agencies that currently utilize K‑9s within a detention or correctional setting.
Specifically, we are interested in obtaining any policies, procedures, or best practices related to the use of K‑9s in the jail environment. Our goal is to continue allowing the assigned deputy to assist jail shifts with daily operations-such as staff breaks, inmate movement, and inmate recreations-while safely and effectively integrating the K‑9 into our existing operational framework.
