Some of you may remember our facility faced a civil lawsuit in regards to a deaf/hard of hearing inmate and lack of services he claimed we provided in which he lost. The person for the city we live in that was on his behalf of the civil case turned it over the to Department of Justice in a complaint to which we were investigated. We had to write an entire General Order on Deaf/Hard of Hearing and add to our Telephone General Order. My question being, have any of you had to put language in your policies that a live interpreter comes to your facility for medical, inmate discipline hearings, or programming? We are a mid sized jail so we have not had to do this before and will have some trouble in finding someone to come inside the jail to interpret during programming etc. I am interested to see if any facilities have this as well as we will.
