Our agency is in the process of consolidating our housing unit control rooms into one centralized main control room. Instead of operating doors from multiple satellite control rooms throughout the facility, several control room operators will work together in one main control room to monitor and operate doors, cameras, intercoms, and other security systems across the entire jail.
I know there are jails currently operating under this model, and I am hoping those agencies would be willing to share their policies, post orders, procedures, training materials, or lessons learned.
Specifically, I am requesting any documents related to:
• Centralized door control operations
• Main control room post orders
• Division of duties among multiple control room operators
• Communication between housing units and the main control room
• Emergency door operation or override procedures
• Camera and intercom monitoring expectations
• Movement control procedures
• Staffing and supervision of the main control room
• Training requirements for centralized control room operators
• Lessons learned when transitioning away from satellite control rooms
We are especially interested in how other facilities maintain accountability, response time, officer safety, and secure movement when all door control functions are operated from one central location.
