My facility is a 224-bed, direct supervision design. We have been operating in this building for 21 years. I'm considering changing how I staff my posts and I am curious if any of you have an opinion on leaving staff on a post for a long period, (say 6 months, or longer) or rotating them more frequently, such as weekly, monthly, quarterly, etc. My NIC reference material recommends at least 90 days. I'm curious how your experience has been. I like the staff to be familiar with the people they supervise, but I also don't want them to form close relationships with the incarcerated. After 33 years I have seen excellence and disaster. Your thoughts would be very welcome.
