I have read through a number of archived posts related to religion. I am curious how others navigate inmates changing their religious preference. There is a wide variance between no restrictions on changing and a time limit after each change. The one's with a time limit usually allow a way for an exception to be made if requested. Does anyone have a form or order of operations for determining "sincerely held religious belief?" DOJ guidance states inquiries are allowed but must have a "light touch." Case law seems to favor case by case determinations and input from a committee representing various interests(I am assuming a pastoral committee of some kind with security staff also represented). Just wanted to get input before proposing any changes as we do not currently address this issue and have allowed preference changes at the request of the inmate.
