Smart glasses (Meta) are a type of wearable technology that resemble regular eyeglasses but contain built-in electronics such as cameras, microphones, speakers, sensors, and wireless connectivity. These devices allow a person to record video, take photos, access information, or interact with applications hands-free.
There appears to be a growing trend of visitors wearing these devices when they come to visit inmates at detention facilities. As you can imagine, this presents a potential security concern for our agencies.
Does your agency or are you aware of any agencies that have developed policies or procedures, or language within an policy for detecting or addressing (prohibiting) this type of technology?
