    Good morning, Everyone.

I'm reaching out today with a heavy heart. While this space is meant for open dialogue and the sharing of ideas to strengthen our departments, I believe it's just as important to pause and reflect on the people behind the badge the human beings who serve, sacrifice, and silently carry the weight of this profession.

We often focus on operations, strategy, and performance, but we must never lose sight of the emotional and mental toll that comes with wearing the uniform. The stress is real. The trauma is real. And the silence around it can be deafening.

Yesterday marked the end of Suicide Prevention Month, but the truth is, suicide doesn't follow a calendar. It doesn't stop when the awareness campaigns end. This is a daily reality for many of our brothers and sisters in law enforcement, and we must do more to support them not just in moments of crisis, but every single day.

We must foster a culture where it's okay to say, "I'm not okay." Where asking for help is seen not as a weakness, but as a profound act of strength. We must remind each other:

    • You are not alone.

    • Your life matters.

    • Your pain is valid.

    • Help is available.

If you're struggling with depression, thoughts of self-harm, or feel lost in the dark, please reach out. There is hope. There is healing. There is someone ready to listen. You do not have to carry this burden alone.

Let us protect those who protect us not just with gear and training, but with compassion, connection, and care. Let us honor the badge not only in ceremony, but in the way we show up for one another.

Today, I ask you to join me in prayer for my brothers and sisters of the Harris County Sheriff's Office as we mourn the loss of one of our own at age of just 23 year old. This heartbreaking loss reminds us that suicide affects not only our seasoned veterans, but also our youngest officers just beginning their journey. Please lift us up in strength and solidarity. May we remember that behind every badge is a beating heart, and behind every uniform is a person that deserves love, understanding, and grace.

Let's be there for each other. Let's check in. Let's listen. Let's lead with empathy.

    Every life matters.
